Context & Environment

Are you a finance professional with strong cost control capabilities in upstream oil & gas operations?

 

TotalEnergies EP Malaysia is seeking a Cost Controller (OPEX & Development Investments) to support cost governance across operating expenditures and development projects. This role plays a key part in ensuring financial discipline, accurate forecasting, and cost optimisation within a complex and highly regulated environment.

Your Impact

As a Cost Controller, you will:

  • Support budgeting and forecasting cycles for operating expenses and development investments, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and cost recovery principles. 
  • Monitor and control commitments, accruals, and actual costs, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with approved budgets. 
  • Perform variance analysis and provide clear insights on budget versus actual performance to support management decision-making. 
  • Develop and update Estimated Final Costs (EFC) in collaboration with budget owners and operational teams.
  • Produce monthly cost control reports and ensure consistency of financial data across reporting systems.
  • Support Contract Committee processes by performing budget impact assessments.
  • Manage intercompany transactions, including Request for Services (RFS), and ensure accurate allocation and tracking of costs.
  • Ensure audit readiness and support internal, joint venture, and external audits.
  • Collaborate closely with finance and operational stakeholders to promote cost awareness and continuous improvement initiatives.

Perfil do Candidato

What We Are Looking For

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Petroleum Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent) is an advantage.
  • 3–6 years of experience in finance or cost control, preferably within the oil & gas industry.
  • Familiarity with PSCs, JOAs, and PETRONAS guidelines is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in SAP (FI/CO) and advanced Excel skills; knowledge of Power BI is a plus.
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
