Context and Environment

The Ratawi Degassing Station, located 70 km west of Basra (Iraq), was operated by BOC (Basra Oil Company) since its start-up in 2008, with an average production of approximately 10 kbpd of anhydrous light oil. TotalEnergies took over operatorship of the field on November 16th, 2023. At the time of the takeover, there was no preventive maintenance in place, and the facility was only partially commissioned, with several pieces of equipment bypassed and never put into service. Additionally, there was no integrity management in place.

This facility is designed to process light oil at 60 kbopd. However, TEEP Ratawi Hub plans to produce a middle API blend. TotalEnergies, as the operator of the Ratawi field, aims to increase production to 120 kbopd by 2026 by debottlenecking the current facility.

By the end of 2027, new gas (GMP) and oil facilities (AGUP Ph2) will be developed to process respectively 300 MMscfd of gas and 210 kbopd.

The change in operatorship, involving only secondees, along with the complexity of the project phases and significant production targets, presents a highly technical and motivating environment. The success of the Iraqi GGIP multi-energy projects depends on CPF1's ability to meet all production forecasts.
