Context & Environment

TotalEnergies Gas & Power Trading (TGP) and its affiliates are expanding rapidly in support of the company’s transition to power, driven by the acquisition of a broad range of energy assets—from renewables such as wind and solar to dispatchable assets like batteries and CCGTs. This growth brings increased trading volumes, a wider geographical footprint, and a strong need for process automation, all of which have significant implications for IT. Within this context, the SCADA engineering team, part of the broader Trading IT organization, will support the Short‑Term Power and Asset Trading functions by delivering high‑performance trading and operational systems.

Atividades

The SCADA Engineer Team Lead oversees the SCADA function within the TGPNA trading organization, ensuring the effective implementation, onboarding, configuration, and operational support of the DGM Asset Dispatch solution, the Generation Management System (GMS), and all related SCADA activities. The role requires deep expertise in SCADA and GMS technologies, strong coordination with trading operations—particularly around Automatic Generation Control (AGC)—and the design of user‑focused dashboards for real‑time operational visibility. It plays a central role in enabling secure integration and connectivity for a diverse portfolio of U.S. energy assets, including CCGTs, batteries, and renewables. The position also collaborates closely with infrastructure teams, global project groups, and business affiliates to ensure alignment across asset management, industrial IT, and trading IT systems. As a design authority for SCADA‑to‑trading integration, the Lead SCADA Engineer contributes to strategic transformation initiatives supporting TotalEnergies’ expanding Gas & Power activities and the company’s broader transition into power markets.

Management Activities

  • Lead and mentor the SCADA team, fostering a collaborative, high‑performance environment.
  • Oversee management reporting, ensuring clear communication of project status, performance metrics, and key findings to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Engage with stakeholders across trading, infrastructure, and project teams to ensure alignment on SCADA initiatives and asset‑management priorities.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional teams to support integration between asset‑management systems and trading systems.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to review progress, address challenges, and share best practices in SCADA operations and project delivery.
  • Stay current on market trends and technological developments in SCADA and energy management to drive continuous improvement.

SCADA Activities

  • Serve as the SCADA subject‑matter expert, providing technical guidance to business and IT teams.
  • Design and implement solutions for connectivity, management, optimization, and dispatching of energy assets (owned or third‑party).
  • Manage and coordinate asset‑connection activities across markets and geographies, providing ongoing technical support to ensure seamless operations.
  • Support the transition and implementation of alternative dispatch solutions, working with third‑party providers as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards, NERC CIP requirements, and internal technology standards; contribute to security audits and assessments.
  • Provide input into the broader trading‑system architecture, ensuring effective integration between industrial IT and trading IT systems.
  • Maintain an inventory of connected assets, document design specifications and protocols, and perform onboarding and qualification for new assets.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain operational reliability; includes participation in shared on‑call rotations with teams in Geneva and Paris.
  • Support scheduling and dispatch teams by deploying dashboards, alerts, and tags within asset‑dispatch software to enhance operational visibility.
  • Collaborate with third‑party solution providers and IT contractors to ensure successful system implementation and ongoing support.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage the SCADA team to deliver secure, reliable, and high‑quality SCADA and GMS solutions supporting TGPNA’s asset‑dispatching and trading activities.
  • Design compliant, robust system architectures and ensure strong operational performance and cybersecurity across all connected systems.
  • Oversee the quality of deliverables produced by internal teams and external vendors.
  • Provide expert operational support and drive continuous improvement of SCADA tools, processes, and system capabilities.
  • Maintain clear communication with stakeholders and management regarding progress, risks, system performance, and operational priorities.

Perfil do Candidato

  • 8+ years of experience in a power‑generation, utility, or trading environment, with strong knowledge of power trading and scheduling; ISO/RTO experience required (ERCOT highly preferred).
  • Solid understanding of energy‑production and trading operations, including systems and processes for scheduling, dispatching, optimization, and asset management (CCGTs, batteries, renewables), as well as interactions with system operators (ISO/RTO).
  • Expertise in AGC systems and integration, SCADA platforms (e.g., Monarch, Hitachi, GE, PI), and data‑exchange protocols used for energy assets and system operators (Modbus, OPC, IEC 104, DNP3, ICCP, etc.), including asset onboarding processes.
  • Familiarity with networking principles and secure‑connectivity protocols for energy assets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with local stakeholders and team members.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve SCADA‑related and asset‑management technical issues.
  • Awareness of industry regulations and best practices related to GMS systems and energy‑asset management.
  • Training and/or certifications in IT service management (e.g., ITIL), project management (e.g., PMI, Prince2), Agile methodologies, cloud technologies, or database systems is desirable.
  • Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams and fostering a collaborative, high‑performance environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a business, technology, or engineering discipline.
  • Strong interest in IT and technology, with experience in software engineering and application management.
  • Fluency in English; French proficiency is an advantage.
