Ideal Education & Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • College degree preferred.
  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) preferred.

Experience:

  • Five to ten plus years' (seniority based on level of experience) relevant experience in an ethics and compliance role at a top company, law firm or government agency, including the following:
    • Experience with compliance program creation and implementation
    • Knowledge of significant compliance laws (FCPA, SAPIN II (preferred), anti-bribery/anti-corruption laws, anti-trust and competition laws, data privacy laws)
    • Knowledge of trade compliance matters, including economic sanctions, export controls, import requirements, anti-boycott regulations preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management capability.
  • Ability to work independently on a wide range of projects and exercise judgment to make reasoned decisions and prioritize workload.
  • Effective relationship management and influencing skills.
  • SAP experience and experience with restricted party screening software preferred.
  • Ability to act autonomously and to solve complex problems and make strategic decisions.
  • Comfortable working in cross-cultural teams, collaborating across country boundaries with a sense for diversity and inclusion.
  • Highest standards of ethics and integrity. 
  • Respectful, innovative & collaborative mindset.
  • Understanding of energy industry & previous project management are a plus.

Activités

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Working cooperatively in a cross-functional setting providing excellent ethics and compliance support, while fostering expertise in colleagues. 
  • Assisting with management of the compliance function for the Company, with a primary focus on these areas:
    • Anti-Corruption
    • Anti-Trust
    • Data Privacy
    • Fraud Prevention
    • Ethics/Human Rights
    • Trade Compliance
  • Acting as key point of contact & compliance officer for U.S. affiliates, including renewable energies.
  • Leading development and implementation of the compliance programs within the current and future renewable energies affiliates.
  • Assist the Deputy General Counsel, Ethics and Compliance, with strategic planning and compliance program implementation and enhancement.
  • Help the Company demonstrate integrity, transparency and accountability to stakeholders.
  • Implement ethics and compliance policies and procedures, and compliance program enhancements, to reduce the company's risk exposure and potential for penalties.
  • Develop and present compliance training for all levels of the company, including both U.S. and non-U.S. audiences, to increase awareness of ethics and compliance laws and regulations, and facilitate strategic business solutions.
  • Provide support and back-up to the trade compliance team (covering import, export and licensing functions).
  • In conjunction with the Corporate, Commercial Law, HSSE, Litigation and M&A teams, work cooperatively on all aspects of TotalEnergies’ business activities in the U.S.
  • Continually seek out best practices to make the ethics and compliance programs more effective and efficient, including designing and modifying internal processes.
  • Create compliance communications, policies/procedures, web content and training; deliver training.
  • Assist with ensuring that procedures, guidance, and standards are developed, implemented, maintained, and updated in accordance with the development of local requirements and best practices.
  • Participate in and assist with management of the compliance network.
  • Monitor and help provide routine updates to senior management regarding compliance-related developments, cases, regulatory updates and news.
  • Oversight of third-party due diligence process, gifts and hospitality register, training statistics and routine compliance reporting obligations (including monthly KPIs).
  • Assist with and perform regular restricted party screening.
  • Help review contracts for appropriate compliance provisions. Maintain library of compliance based contractual terms.
  • Assist with management and awareness of the Business Integrity Line and the annual Code of Conduct and Business Ethics Questionnaire (COCQ). Primary point of contact for COCQ and responsible for initial conflicts of interest oversight and follow-up.
  • Assist with compliance-related audits; conduct assessments and participate in investigations. Help develop and monitor risk mitigation action plans, as needed.
  • Assist with organizing and conducting annual ethics and compliance awareness event(s), such as TotalEnergies’ Business Ethics Day.
  • Liaise with other legal department members on various matters.
  • Special projects as required.

  • This position supports a wide variety of energy businesses spread across 150+ entities with a rapidly changing and expanding perimeter. In this position, you will be a member of the TotalEnergies American Services (TEAS) entity, providing ethics and compliance support to TotalEnergies’ U.S. businesses.
  • Interact with all levels of employees and contractors in all business units and administrative groups within the Company, including senior management and domestic and foreign affiliates, as well as with external customers, regulators, consultants and outside counsel.
  • Regular involvement with reports to upper management about status of ethics and compliance program, program initiatives and any areas of concern.
  • Arrange and assist with proactive compliance assessments of all divisions and follow-up with additional periodic assessments to foster continual improvement and help avoid violations, fines and penalties.
  • Champion best practices across all divisions.
