Context & Environment

Renewable electricity is the defining energy of the 21st century. In response, TotalEnergies is investing heavily in solar and wind power generation as well as battery energy‑storage assets, with the ambition of becoming one of the world’s top five renewable‑energy producers by 2030. The U.S. electricity markets are a strategic priority for both the Company and its Gas, Renewables & Power (GRP) branch, complementing its well‑established gas and broader commodities businesses. Their diversity and complexity demand deep expertise in U.S. power‑market dynamics, along with strong capabilities in risk management, position oversight, and compliance.

TotalEnergies Gas & Power North America (TGPNA), the Company’s U.S. trading affiliate within the GRP organization, supports this ambition through marketing and trading, transportation, storage, export, and other commercial activities across the U.S. energy value chain. Its portfolio spans natural gas, natural gas liquids, power, and environmental products—each essential to TotalEnergies’ global integrated strategy. Operating within the fast‑moving and highly competitive U.S. energy markets, the U.S. Trading Origination Team, part of the Trading Energy Management (TEM) business unit, plays a central role in developing and executing the TEM strategy and advancing TotalEnergies’ broader goal of becoming a multi‑energy company focused on the energies of the future.

Activiteiten

The Power Originator is responsible for supporting the U.S. Power Trading Origination Strategy by identifying, developing, and executing short‑ and long‑term power transactions of varying complexity. The role focuses on structuring and negotiating transactions for the purchase and sale of energy, capacity, and renewable products and services, with a strong emphasis on customized solutions for both internal and external customers. In addition, the Power Originator will help source and negotiate contracts for flexible assets—such as batteries, CCGTs, and demand‑response resources—to effectively balance portfolio exposures.

Success in this role requires developing a deep understanding of the Company’s broader U.S. energy strategy and translating it into a portfolio of products and services that advance corporate objectives. The Power Originator will work directly with IPPs and renewable‑energy producers, energy funds, load‑serving entities, generation developers, and industrial and commercial customers to implement this strategy within the Company’s core operating regions. The position involves direct engagement with internal and external stakeholders, managing relationships from initial contact through contract execution and ongoing portfolio management. Internally, the Originator must coordinate closely with multiple trading desks and key functions—including credit, finance, legal, and management at both local and global levels—to bring transactions from concept to completion.

Financials:  The Power Originator will actively contribute, alongside the Head of Power Origination US, to delivering the U.S. Global Origination budget of approximately $60M per year in P&L, as well as supporting $1B in annual business flows and group infrastructure commitments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of TotalEnergies Gas & Power North America (TGPNA)’s trading portfolio, including:
    • Asset portfolios, contractual arrangements, and product flows, with a focus on power projects and future developments
    • Key counterparties, markets, and market dynamics
    • Positions, risk‑management practices, and optimization strategies
    • Company strategies related to business development, growth, and new energies
  • Work with the Head of Power Origination to originate, pursue, and execute a variety of power transactions that support the Company’s power‑growth strategy:
    • Identify potential transactions with renewable developers, generation owners, and storage developers; structure, negotiate, and close supply deals aligned with strategic supply targets
    • Collaborate with load‑serving entities, commercial customers, and industrial customers to develop energy and risk‑management products tailored to their operational and renewable‑compliance needs
    • Partner with other members of the Origination Team to analyze revenue and profit potential of structured transactions
    • Identify product and deal structures that optimize opportunities around existing power assets and portfolios, and market these solutions to internal and external customers
  • Directly influence and support the Power Origination portfolio and performance:
    • Track customers, sales opportunities, and market intelligence to strengthen the Origination Team’s market knowledge and positioning
    • Help develop, test, and maintain trading tools and models supporting counterparty deals, structured transactions, and long‑term analysis
    • Initiate and support the design of customized power‑product offerings for internal portfolio needs and select external customers
  • Manage internal and external customer relationships:
    • Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams including risk control, finance, HR, compliance, and legal
    • Represent TotalEnergies at conferences and industry events to reinforce the Company’s presence and reputation in the U.S. power market
  • Work closely and coordinate with TGPNA and GRP (Europe) front‑office and support desks to:
    • Identify risks and opportunities within the portfolio
    • Improve coordination, share tools, and exchange best practices
    • Support efforts to streamline and optimize workflows

Accountabilities:

  • Comply with the Code of Conduct, Compliance Manual, and all Company and Group policies and procedures.
