Context & Environment

To meet the dual challenge of climate change and the growing energy needs of populations, TotalEnergies is transforming itself to become a multi-energy company. By bringing together the Company's technical and scientific skills, the OneTech branch, created on September 2021, aims to provide the technological expertise that TotalEnergies needs to implement its strategy. By placing our internal customers at the heart of our concerns, we support the various activities of the Company, on a daily basis, towards operational excellence. The internship will be held within the Solar R&D team of TotalEnergies OneTech, as a part of SolarOPS project. SolarOPS is a PV performance modeling platform that is used to simulate a multitude of different PV scenarios in different geographies, configurations, technologies, etc. The intern will be part of a small team that is responsible for the development of of numerical methods for accurate modeling.

Activiteiten

Objective : To enhance the numerical methods used in SolarOPS by revisiting the underlying optical equations, comparing them with the current implementation, optimizing performance through the selection of appropriate numerical methods, and validating the results against various baselines.


Key Responsibilities :


1) Review and Analyze Equations :

- Revisit the fundamental optical equations governing the software's operations

- Ensure a thorough understanding of the mathematical models and their assumptions


2) Code Comparison and Analysis :

- Compare the theoretical equations with the current implementation in the code

- Identify discrepancies and areas for improvement


3) Performance Optimization :

- Evaluate the performance of existing numerical methods

- Research and select optimal numerical methods to enhance efficiency and accuracy

- Implement the chosen methods and assess their impact on performance


4) Baseline Generation and Comparison :

- Generate baselines using analytical solutions, numerical methods, and third-party software

- Compare the results from SolarOPS with these baselines to validate accuracy and reliability

- Develop and implement comprehensive tests to ensure consistency and correctness


5) Documentation and Reporting :

- Prepare detailed report that will be included in the theoretical manual of SolarOPS.


Expected Outcomes :

- Improved accuracy and performance of SolarOPS

- Comprehensive documentation of the numerical methods and their implementation

- Validated results through rigorous testing and comparison with baselines

Profiel kandidaat

Are you pursuing a degree at the bac +4 or bac +5 level and looking for an ending internship ?


We offer a conventioned internship for a duration of 6 months, starting in April 2025 (flexibility possible).


Technical skills :

- Strong knowledge of mathematics and analysis

- Mastery of numerical methods and performance optimization

- Experience in code analysis and validation


IT skills :

- Programming
