Context & Environment

OneTech's mission is to provide the technological and scientific expertise required to support development projects and operations across all TotalEnergies activities worldwide (oil and biofuels, natural and green gas, renewables and electricity). Its 3,400 employees – engineers, technicians, researchers, and support staff – are based on 9 sites across Europe and are fully committed to helping TotalEnergies achieve its ambition of becoming a major player in the energy transition, aiming for net zero emissions by 2050.

Join our Customer Lines, Technical Lines, R&D Lines and Support functions teams, which assist all operational branches of TotalEnergies in their development projects and operational support!

Activiteiten

The integration of re-refined base oils (RRBO) into lubricant formulations is a key component of TotalEnergies Lubricants' Climate roadmap. To strengthen this strategy, TotalEnergies acquired Tecoil, a leading RRBO producer, in July 2024.

Utilizing these recycled feedstocks requires a detailed understanding of their chemical and physicochemical properties. This necessitates the development of cutting-edge analytical methods. You will help develop innovative techniques for sample preparation (SPE, fractionation, etc.) and the characterization of resulting fractions using coupled multidimensional separation techniques (gas and liquid chromatography) and high-resolution mass spectrometry to identify trace and ultra-trace compounds.

The position is based in Solaize and includes occasional travel to other R&D platforms in France and Belgium. It is a 24-month fixed-term private law contract.

As a post-doctoral researcher, your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing a structured technical program to explore various strategies for detecting trace/ultra-trace compounds in complex matrices such as RRBO: identifying, documenting, and testing innovative sample preparation and analytical methods, building on existing work, and collaborating closely with the Company’s analytical teams.
  • Defining project milestones, deliverables, and schedules, and monitoring progress through regular reporting to the project manager.
  • Developing robust and reliable analytical methods, ensuring relevance to project objectives, and complying with HSE regulations.
  • Writing a comprehensive technical report summarizing the work.
  • Promoting the results through patents or scientific publications.
  • Actively contributing to team life: attending meetings, providing input on technical, quality, and HSE topics.
  • Interacting with the Company’s scientific advisors.
  • Participating in cross-functional working groups on separation sciences and mass spectrometry, contributing significantly to discussions and projects.

Profiel kandidaat

This position is for you if:

  • You hold a PhD in separation sciences, with strong experience in mass spectrometry and ideally in sample preparation.
  • You enjoy teamwork and experimental work, are curious, analytical, and demonstrate scientific rigor.
  • You are fluent in both French and English, written and spoken
