About the Role
The Senior Tax Advisor – Tax Planning acts as a key Tax Business Partner for TotalEnergies’ U.S. operations, with a strong focus on the expanding Renewables business as well as Trading, Upstream, and Downstream activities. The role is accountable for tax planning and research supporting U.S. and global initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and corporate reorganizations.

Operating in a fast-paced and complex environment, the position requires close collaboration with business, finance, legal, accounting, and external advisors, often across borders. The role involves managing multiple initiatives with tight timelines and delivering clear, actionable tax advice to senior leadership.

Actividades

Key Responsibilities & Activities

  • Serve as Tax Business Partner to U.S. affiliates, with primary focus on Renewables and cross-branch planning initiatives.
  • Lead tax planning, research, and modeling for internal reorganizations, acquisitions, dispositions, and other strategic transactions.
  • Evaluate and recommend tax-efficient structures and alternatives for proposed investments and transactions.
  • Prepare and review tax analyses, structure decks, and position papers supporting federal and state tax positions.
  • Monitor changes in U.S. federal, state, and relevant international tax laws and assess business impacts.
  • Review transaction documentation and liaise with internal legal teams and external counsel.
  • Support planning initiatives impacting U.S. affiliates and the global effective tax rate.
  • Identify tax optimization opportunities and process improvements.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and contribute to tax function development and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide support to Tax Operations (provision, compliance, audit) during peak periods as needed.


Accountabilities

  • Responsible for U.S. tax planning across three U.S. tax groups.
  • Deliver timely, high-quality tax advice in support of U.S. and global transactions and investments.
  • Support tax legislation monitoring, modeling, and tax attribute management.
  • Communicate complex tax matters clearly to executive management and key stakeholders.

Perfil del candidato

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (BS/BBA required); CPA, Master’s in Taxation, or J.D. preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of U.S. corporate tax experience (Big 4, large law firm, in-house tax department, or combination).
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal corporate tax and consolidated return concepts.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive-level stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
