The role encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities including technical studies, project support, affiliate support, R&D initiatives and Referential development activities.
The engineer collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists covering design, material, welding, NDT, corrosion, geosciences, structural, etc. facilitating the development of advanced technical expertise in pipeline, riser, and cable design, operation, and integrity management.
This position offers comprehensive exposure across the entire lifecycle of subsea and onshore infrastructure, from R&D and conceptual development through detailed engineering, construction, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, operational support, integrity monitoring, and eventual decommissioning.
The role involves cross-functional collaboration with various métiers, including petroleum architects, flow assurance specialists, geologists and geophysicists, cost engineers, field operations personnel, HSE professionals, and other technical disciplines. It also requires engagement with external stakeholders such as engineering companies, equipment vendors, EPCI contractors, standards organizations, and other oil and gas operators.
Occasional national and international assignments are integral to the role, involving site visits and technical support to affiliates, vendors, and contractors, as well as participation in industry forums. Field missions, both offshore and onshore, may be conducted to support installation campaigns and integrity assessments.
The role involves leading technical studies for pipelines, risers, and cables—both onshore and offshore—to support development activities from early conceptual phases through FEED, as well as execution-phase projects and operating assets.
It requires proactively developing technical solutions that enhance safety and risk management, operational performance, integrity assessment, troubleshooting capabilities, and technological innovation.
The scope is centered on rigid (steel) pipelines and risers, excluding flexible systems such as bonded, unbonded, TCP, GRE and the like, as well as umbilical; however, the role may involve mechanical design activities for cables.
The position offers opportunities to contribute to both conventional oil and gas developments and to actively support the Company’s energy transition initiatives, including CO₂ and H₂ pipeline systems.
Your main activities are related to design of rigid pipeline, riser and cables and will include:
• Conducting preliminary routing and sizing for development studies in support of Petroleum Architects. Evaluating aspects potentially increasing costs and project risks.
• Supporting Project teams by:
o Participating in the review of technical design documentation, covering fundamental aspects such as routing, wall‑thickness calculations, on‑bottom stability, and free‑span assessment, and the like, as well as more advanced topics including global buckling, pipeline walking, dynamic riser assessment, ECA, the design of heated pipeline systems, etc.
o Challenging Contractors during technical meetings.
• Taking part in project technical reviews, audits and value engineering activities.
• Performing integrity studies to support affiliates in managing assets in operation and providing the required assistance in the event of incidents.
• Executing Life Extension and Requalification studies.
• Capturing lessons learned and operational feedback from all support activities to continuously improve the pipeline, riser and cables Company General Specifications (Referential).
• Contributing to the assessment of derogation requests to the Referential
• Participating in Research & Development initiatives.
• Taking part in the qualification of new products and new applications developed by suppliers and subcontractors from a design-engineering perspective.
• Organizing internal training sessions on pipelines, risers and cables design.
• Participating in normative and industry working groups related to pipelines, risers and cables.
- You are a Pipeline and Riser Engineer with 15 years’ proven experience, in the following domains:
a) Full design of offshore rigid pipelines and risers, both for shallow and deep-water systems.
b) Full design of onshore rigid pipelines.
c) Design of onshore and offshore cables, including routing definition, mechanical design, dynamic and fatigue studies, cable risks assessment, definition and design of protection systems. Design of the landfall both with open-trench and trenchless techniques. Installation calculations with understanding of various installation methodologies.
d) Fitness for service assessments, life extension and re-qualification studies, including recommendation for repairs strategies for onshore pipeline, offshore pipeline and riser systems as well as for cable systems. Basic knowledge of inspections technologies.
e) Excellent knowledge of international standard, codes and key industry guidelines.
f) Development and use of calculation tools. Understanding of Finite Element Analyses.
- You are fluent in English (mandatory).
- You have strong communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
