Contexto y entorno

Within TotalEnergies, the OneTech Branch brings together all the technical and R&D expertise from the different divisions (Exploration & Production, Refining Chemicals, Marketing & Services, and Gas, Renewables & Power). With nearly 3,400 engineers and technicians spread across 9 sites in Europe, OneTech is organised around three hubs: an industrial hub to support the Company's growth in gas, renewables, electricity, and CO2 emissions reduction; a Research & Development hub to drive TotalEnergies' transformation by prioritising a low-carbon mix; and a support functions hub.

The postdoctoral researcher is working in the CO2 team and will be physically based at the PERL site, the Lacq Research and Study Centre, to carry out laboratory experiments.

Actividades

As a postdoctoral researcher Geochemist R&T, you will work on the following topics: 


- Impact of diphasic CO2/water flow on fluid-rock interactions: implications for mineralization and injectivity in Carbon Geological Storage reservoirs.

- CO2–water–rock interactions are key to CO2 mineralization in mafic rocks. In addition, intermittent CO2 injection in saline aquifers and depleted reservoirs may intensify reactions due to drainage/imbibition cycles. Recent work at Imperial College London (2024, 2025) showed higher dissolution reactivity of magnesium-silicates during diphasic injection. 

The postdoc will study reactivity under mixed-water and supercritical CO2 injection using >10 cm core plugs from ultramafic rocks, clay/carbonate-rich sandstones, and carbonates. The objectives are to give key parameters to:

     - For CO2 mineralization topics: (i) test alternative injection strategies proposed by start-ups (Cella and 44.01) implying supercritical CO2 as a mean to decrease the technology cost (WAG and nano-bubbles) and (ii) provide key parameters for resource estimates

     - For intermittent injection in conventional reservoirs: investigate the risk on injectivity and reservoir integrity through time.

Perfil del candidato

- You have a PhD in geochemistry with experience in laboratory and numerical experiments.

- You speak English and / or French and have good writing skills in English.

- You have less than 3 years of experience after obtaining your PhD.
