Context & Environment

Stanford University, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and TotalEnergies have formed a partnership in 2018 to develop a multiphysics, exascale-ready research simulator compatible with next-generation supercomputers. The domain targeted is Carbon storage simulation in subsurface formations, with emphasis on coupled flow and geomechanics in the presence of heterogeneities and fractures. CO2 geological storage is key to reducing the atmospheric concentration of CO2, and is therefore one of the biggest challenges for our society, and for TotalEnergies and its partners.

Activities

Join our affiliate TotalEnergies USA, associated with Stanford University (California) !

As part of the FC MAELSTROM project, TotalEnergies and its partners Stanford University and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are developing a simulation tool capable of handling flow simulation and geomechanics, leveraging recent massively distributed computing architectures. This new tool called GEOS is used for advanced CO2 sequestration case studies. We are looking for a highly motivated Research Engineer to add to our team of developers, testers, and engineers. The main objective of this mission is to deploy and test the results and performance of GEOS. GEOS runs on several high-performance computing systems, and we must maintain deployment and performance on these important systems.

As a HPC (High-Performance Computing) tester and developer for GEOS, you will have to :
  • work on the continuous integration and continuous deployment of GEOS using GitHub actions ;
  • measure, analyze and improve the performance of GEOS (profiling tools like Caliper, weak and strong scaling studies, roofline plot analyses) ;
  • help the development team in maintaining and support GEOS for our user base.

Candidate Profile

Expected profile:
  • Master's degree or engineering degree in computer science
  • Previous experience in scientific computing required

Technical skills
:
  • Skills in high-performance computing scientific software development, testing, deployment and maintenance
  • Familiar with CI/CD tools and methods
  • Interest in learning about subsurface simulation and CO2 storage.
  • Knowledge in scientific computing for solving physical problems : heat or mass transfer, mechanical deformations, for instance

Computing skills:
  • Proficiency of C++ coding (advanced level)

  • Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Continuous Deployment/Continuous Integration

  • Knowledge in HPC profiling tools

Languages:
  • English: level C1
  • French: level B2/C1
