Smart grids are interesting technologies that can contribute to the energy transition due to their ability to optimize energy consumption, integrate renewable energy sources, and enhance grid reliability. Investigating the use Reinforcement Learning to handle the decision / optimization part of these smart grids is promising due to the capacity of RL models to reach good performances in complex and uncertain environments. 

 

The intern will be integrated into a project that aims to evaluate the interest of Reinforcement Learning on decision-making for smart grids. Models have already been trained to control the battery charge and discharge and are being evaluated in a smart building located on the Polytechnique campus.

Aktivitäten

We are interested in three possible ways of improving existing models, one or more of which could be tackled by the trainee:

  • The first is model generalization. For the moment, the models trained are specific to a particular smart grid. The trainee's objective will be to propose and validate solutions to make the model more general.
  • The second is to improve the model's performance. The trainee's objective would be to try to improve performance through various levers, such as the choice of neural network architecture, input space, reward formulation, etc.
  • The last axis aims to train RL models focusing more specifically on optimizing the control of electric vehicle charging stations present in the smart grid.


You will evolve within a team of experienced professionals and with a tutor-coach, the reference for your future profession. Individualized support will help you develop your autonomy and lead you to your diploma!

Currently enrolled in an engineering school or Master's program in the Reinforcement Learning field, are you looking for an 6-month end-of-study internship starting in first semester 2025?

Do you have experience in Reinforcement Learning and knowledge of Knowledge on energy systems? Do you know Machine Learning and Deep Learning?

Are you comfortable with office automation and familiar with the Office suite? You've got good coding skill (Python, RL librairies, NN librairies) and are familiar to Latex ?

Are you a self-starter, rigorous and a team player? Can you take the initiative? A professional command of English will be essential for this position.
