About the Role

The Tax Analyst – Indirect Tax role reports to the Senior Manager – Indirect Tax and is part of the TEAS Finance organization. This position is based in Houston, Texas at the TotalEnergies Tower.


This role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic and fastpaced Indirect Tax team supporting U.S. and Canadian operations. The position plays a critical role in managing indirect tax compliance across multiple entities and business lines, with exposure to sales and use tax, VAT, and motor fuel tax within the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance.
  • Minimum of two years of experience supporting endtoend sales and use tax in an integrated oil and gas company and/or energy sector.
  • Experience supporting indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, VAT, and/or motor fuel tax.
  • Experience with tax analysis and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Experience with SAP and indirect tax systems such as Avalara, Thomson Reuters OneSource, or Vertex.
  • Big 4 VAT or excise duty experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, offshore teams, and external parties.

Perfil del candidato

The role supports daily indirect tax operations while also contributing to major projects and longterm strategy, including bringing indirect tax compliance activities in house and strengthening collaboration with offshore teams. This position is essential to ensuring compliance, optimizing indirect tax positions, and minimizing state and local tax risk.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Indirect Tax Compliance and Operations

  • Support U.S. and Canadian indirect tax filings, including sales and use tax, VAT, and motor fuel tax, across multiple entities, totaling approximately 2,000 filings annually on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Perform monthly direct pay analysis and remediation to minimize over or underaccruals of use tax.
  • Support stewardship of U.S. direct and nondirect pay permits.
  • Review monthly general ledger account reconciliations and support timely resolution of open items.

Tax Analysis, Audits, and Advisory

  • Monitor, track, and communicate changes in indirect tax legislation and support compliance and tax strategy.
  • Provide tax technical and analytical support for new business activities, legal entity growth, and acquisitions.
  • Support indirect tax audits, both internally led and external, including data extraction and audit readiness.
  • Respond effectively and timely to ad hoc requests from management, peers, internal and external customers, and government officials.

Process Improvement and Collaboration

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, automation, and process simplification.
  • Contribute to the development of an inhouse VAT function.
  • Support multiple indirect tax projects focused on simplifying and streamlining current processes.
  • Collaborate closely with onshore and offshore indirect tax teams to ensure KPIs and deliverables are met and to promote effective crossteam coordination.
