This role operates within a fast‑paced trading environment, requiring the ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining strong communication with team members, other departments, and external counterparts. The position also involves reconciling discrepancies and resolving counterpart issues, which demands proactive problem‑solving and information gathering. In addition, the jobholder must ensure accurate reporting and monitoring in compliance with the Dodd‑Frank Act, Sarbanes‑Oxley Act, and other regulatory requirements, making diligence and attention to detail critical for success.

Actividades

  • Act as first point of contact for the Power Trading desk and Energy Data Management team on operational and invoicing queries
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations, invoicing, and financial workflow support
  • Prepare reports and statements for physical power activities across ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, and SPP markets
  • Manage a portfolio of Power, REC, and HRCO trading counterparts and ensure accurate deal entry in trading systems (BOOK, PowerOptix, ISO)
  • Confirm trades with counterparts/brokers daily and monitor OTC trades via ICE Trade Vault to meet Dodd‑Frank reporting deadlines
  • Process and reconcile invoices, settlements, and payments in coordination with Front Office, Middle Office, Treasury, and Accounting teams
  • Apply payment terms, netting rules, and create/analyze settlement statements within Simba systems
  • Handle confirmations for Power/REC/Swap/HRCO trades, ensuring timely distribution and resolution of outstanding items
  • Support onboarding of new counterparts and review Power, REC, and HRCO contracts for accuracy and compliance
  • Provide assistance on Back Office queries, participate in projects, and mentor junior team members
  • Run management reports, ad‑hoc analysis, and support process/system improvements including testing and implementation
  • Identify operational risks and propose mitigating measures
  • Conduct revenue/cost variance analyses to resolve billing discrepancies and forecast issues
  • Generate monthly gross margin estimates and reconcile results through settlement processes
  • Reconcile VPPA swaps and ensure compliance with Dodd‑Frank requirements
  • Monitor Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) across North American markets from confirmation to settlement
  • Process daily and monthly reconciliations for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) activity in ERCOT, ensuring timely invoice actualizations

Accountabilities

This role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of confirmations and invoicing/payments for all transactions in accordance with legal agreements. It requires ensuring that all Power and REC deal entries within the trading book are correct and verified against exchanges, as well as performing daily checks on open positions and deal transactions with brokers, exchanges, and clearers. The jobholder must be able to identify errors in trade verification processes and perform manual calculations when necessary. Strong communication skills are essential, as the position involves regular interaction with numerous internal and external parties.

Financial

  • The Back Office processes approximately 250,000 confirmations and 35,000 invoices and payments annually
  • Counterparties include upstream and downstream affiliates, as well as major energy companies across Europe, the US, the Middle East, and Asia, with clearing houses representing over USD 12.9 billion in turnover

Non-Financial

  • Operate within Back Office functions in Houston, covering TGPNA and TGPL activities
  • Engage across US Power Markets (wholesale and retail), including ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, MISO, SPP, Renewable Energy Certificates, and HRCO activities
  • Provide support and testing for ongoing system developments, and assist with onboarding of new systems, processes, and products
  • Participate in regular internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations

Perfil del candidato

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Energy, or a related business field
  • 3–5 years of experience in power markets with strong data analysis focus
  • Solid understanding of the North American power and energy commodity markets
  • Ability to work under pressure, with strong attention to detail and adaptability to change
  • Effective communication skills and a customer‑focused mindset
  • High accuracy and diligence in a high‑stakes environment where errors carry financial and reputational impact
  • Strong drive to improve processes and systems, supported by advanced IT skills (Excel, VBA, Power BI, Alteryx)
  • Capability to develop new tools and reports to optimize processes and adapt to evolving business needs
