Context & Environment

Integrated Power Modelling (IPM), in OneTech Technical Line Power, supports the company’s technological ambitionin the digitalization of renewable energies value chain. It brings together cross‑domain expertise (scientific and digital) to deliver digital products with the goal of maximizing both the performance and value of renewable assets (solar, wind, energy storage).

It is built around four platforms, each oriented toward internal business clients (GRP, REN, FPI, Trading, etc.): Origination & Design, Grid Integration, Operations Performance & Optimization, and Forecasting.

Each platform isstructured into three teams: Product Solutions (PS), Research & Capability Development (RCD) and Software Delivery& Operations (SDO).

The Grid Integration platform products focus on numerical tools aiming at optimizing the connection of our renewable assets to the electrical grid. We tackle real‑world challenges from network constraints, curtailment risks to electrical standards and regulatory compliance. It incorporates physics-based models connected to various data streams(weather forecasts, power demand, and more) with strong data/cloud integration.

As Power Systems Controls & Automation Engineer, you will operate in the Research & Capability Development Team and interact in close collaboration with Product Managers and Product Owners teams, as well as with other IPMentities (eg. Forecasting) or outside (eg. TL/TEC/IEL, GRP Business..)

Activities

Within the "Grid Integration" Platform, you will join the Operational Technology (OT) Team as Power Systems Controls& Automation Engineer.

The Main objectives of the OT Team include the specification,Development, testing and qualification of control solutions (PPC-Power Plants Controllers

and PMS-Power Management Systems), advanced protection functions (Virtual Protections) and SCADA systems for Hybrid power systems combining

conventional generation with renewable energy and electrical storage.

Key Responsibilities – OT Team

Technical Activities

  • Contribute to the design and development of in-house PMS/PPC functionalities and their implementation on industrial controllers (Linux-based PCs/servers or PLCs).
  • Integrate third-party PMS, PPC, SCADA, and Virtual Protection solutions with OPAL-RT simulators, including industrial communication setup (Modbus, IEC 61850, DNP3, etc.) and validation testing.
  • Help build the future Power Lab in Saclay (real-time simulators, control cabinets, power converters), with a focus on measurement and automation.
  • Configure communication networks, I/O mappings, measurement interfaces, and data models.
  • Configure SCADA systems: databases, tags, data acquisition, historians, alarms, and HMI screens.
  • Develop communication mappings between PPC/PMS/Protection devices and SCADA.
  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial protocols: IEC 61850 (MMS, GOOSE, SCL), Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, OPC-UA/DA, CAN, and proprietary inverter interfaces.
  • Validate IT network performance (latency, redundancy, VLANs, cybersecurity) and real-time controller behavior (cycle sync, jitter, protection trip times, fault handling).
  • Write and maintain functional specs, test plans, validation procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Perform coding, scripting, or configuration work across PPC/PMS/SCADA/Virtual Protection platforms.
  • Review electrical drawings, control schematics, network diagrams, and panel layouts for automation compliance.
  • Support FAT/SAT preparation.

Team & Coordination

  • Support the OT Team Coordinator with day-to-day tasks: code reviews, client meetings, project presentations, and project management.
  • Contribute to defining the team roadmap and improving internal processes.
  • Mentor newcomers.
  • Manage external collaborations with academic partners, including supervision of PhD students and interns.

Candidate Profile

  • Engineering degree in Advanced Control & Automation applied to energy domain
  • PhD degree on Advanced Control & Automation of Power Systems would be a plus
  • More than 10 years experience in an industrial context on Automation of electrical power systems: conventional power generation (diesel generators, gas turbines…etc), renewables (PV, wind…etc) and storage systems(BESS…etc)
  • Strong Background on Power Systems modeling, simulation and control
  • Strong background on embedded systems and electronics
  • Strong competencies in Model Based Design with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Knowledge in Power Management Systems design for Power Systems
  • Strong Software skills: MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++ or similar, web-HMI design, databases, Linux OS,Labview, PLC programming, versioning with git
  • Knowledge and experience of some Industrial communication protocols (especially IEC 61850 and modbus)
  • Strong knowledge and competencies of IoT world: communication protocols, communication equipments (routers, switches…etc),
  • Ability to work in a Lab environment including electronics and power electronics devices: cabling, measuring, design of small electronics boards.
  • Experience with at least one of the following real time simulators applied to energy systems would be a plus: OPAL-RT, Speedgoat, Typhoon, RTDS.
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Project Management skills
