Context & Environment

Electricity market models are utilized at TotalEnergies to forecast day-ahead market prices and generation by type. However, market outcomes may not always align with real-time conditions, and scheduled generation or consumption often changes during the delivery day. To maintain reliable electricity delivery, generation redispatch is implemented as a preventive measure for secure real-time operation. The time frame for the market model typically spans 5 to 10 years, while grid modelling generally covers upcoming hours. This internship will examine methods for selecting the most representative hours from market modelling to forecast redispatch volumes through grid modelling.

Activities

As a Redispatch Forecasting in Power Systems M/F trainee, your missions will be:

• Understand the causes and mechanisms of redispatch in European electricity markets.

• Develop an existing modeling chain that links market results from PLEXOS with grid constraints in PowerFactory.

• Develop an algorithm to select representative days from market modelling to grid modelling

• Simulate scenarios to estimate redispatch volumes under different weather years

• Analyze the impact of renewables, congestion, and market design on redispatch needs.

 

You will evolve within a team of experienced professionals and with a tutor-coach, the reference for your future profession. Individualized support will help you develop your autonomy and lead you to your diploma!

Candidate Profile

Currently enrolled in an engineering school or master’s program in the electrical engineering field, are you looking for a 6-month end-of-study internship starting in February 2026?

Do you have experience in electrical engineering and knowledge of energy systems, or applied mathematics? Are you familiar with power system modeling and optimization tools?

Are you comfortable with office automation and familiar with the Office suite? Do you have experience or interest in PLEXOS, PowerFactory, Python, or MATLAB?

Are you a self-starter, rigorous and a team player?

Can you take the initiative?

A professional command of English will be essential for this position. Good writing skills and basic French are a plus.
