Context & Environment

  • Must develop a working relationship with the CFO’s and accounting managers for assigned affiliates and consult with the affiliates on a regular basis regarding the tax implications for various transactions.
  • Requires an ability to lead a project to completion – including new investments in the US.
  • Requires experience and understanding of the complex deferred tax rules for oil & gas companies
  • Frequent Interaction with a variety of departments and businesses, sometimes outside of US.
  • Typically, there are many ongoing initiatives with multiple deadlines and very short turnaround.
  • Assisting in coordinating with external tax advisors and service providers to deliver needed services in a cost constrained environment. 
  • High level analysis of complex business operations and industry specific tax issues for all branch activities, Upstream, Downstream, Petrochemicals, Renewables, trading and shipping, and other specialty chemicals and manufacturing businesses.
  • Leadership regarding international filing requirements and transfer pricing issues impacting the US affiliates


Activities

This position is primarily responsible for the following:

  • Tax Planning function for TotalEnergies in the US (3 US consolidated tax groups).
  • Serve as Tax Business Partner for various branches with a focus on E&P and Renewables.
  • Provides tax advice in support of US and global transactions.
  • Monitoring and modeling tax attribute management.
  • Serve as a member of the Tax Leadership Team supporting US tax strategy.
  • Primary contact for tax committees representing the US tax team with the Washington DC office and American Petroleum Institute and General Business Alliance tax committees.
  • Respond to document requests from the IRS and state auditors.
  • Perform analysis and provide documentation of all material uncertain tax positions.
  • Recommend tax mitigation strategies, cost savings, and process improvements.
  • Provide leadership for IRS income tax audits and IDR requests for all US affiliates.
  • Project work as needed

Candidate Profile

  • BS/BBA in Accounting - Master’s Degree in Taxation, JD and/or CPA is preferred
  • 10+ years of US corporate tax experience in a CPA firm (Big 4 experience preferred) and/or major corporation.
  • Project management skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast paced enviroment
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate to executive level is critical
  • ASC 740 experience and research experience are preferred.
  • State income and Sales &Use tax experience would be helpful
  • Partnership tax experience is preferred
