Context & Environment

The Trading Operations team of T&S is essential in our trading organization and requires reliable and committed individuals who thrive in a fast-paced and real-time environment. We value collaboration and teamwork, and we are looking for enthusiastic people with a cooperative mindset to join our central team located in Geneva, the HQ of the Trading & Shipping branch of TotalEnergies.

Your Role as a Trading Operator:

As a Trading Operator, you will work closely with traders and counterparties to coordinate all aspects of post-deal trading activities from trade inception to completion.

You will be working in a fast-paced, dynamic trading environment with time-sensitive, business-critical activities requiring 24/7 responsiveness, strong planning and organizational skills, and attention to detail. You will act as a key interface and internal coordinator between all involved internal departments (Trading, Treasury, Credit, Financial Control, Accounting, Shipping, Vetting, Demurrage, AQB, etc.) and third parties.

Activities

  • Coordinate logistics for all loading/discharging by sea and/or overland, avoiding and mitigating any potential hazardous situations.
  • Follow up on vessels chartered by the company (spot, COA, or T/C) and optimize rotations and loading plans.
  • Nominate essential service providers (independent inspectors, loss controllers, additive suppliers, etc.) and ensure the accuracy and consistency of the results obtained.
  • Diligently manage storage and process contracts (quantities, qualities, financial exposure, customs, etc.).
  • Identify the cause of any operational problems encountered and ensure resolution through coordination with all affected stakeholders, mitigating costs and consequences for the company.
  • Obtain financial guarantees from counterparties, control and/or amend them before cargo loading/unloading, in conjunction with the Credit department.
  • Evaluate all costs derived from transactions and communicate all operational data having a financial impact on trading results (prices, hedges, freight, currency, etc.).
  • Verify the coherence and feasibility of trading negotiations and formalize commercial contracts.
  • Submit damage reports to insurers and compile and follow claim files.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory aspects (REACH, Customs, VAT, etc.) in collaboration with respective support departments.
  • Ensure compliance with vetting procedures for seagoing vessels and barges.
  • Adhere to HSE, Code of Conduct, Business Integrity, and all other applicable company policies and procedures at all times.
  • Manage the invoicing and payment process and recovery of funds when applicable.
  • Where applicable to the role, manage and optimize equity lifting by having an in-depth understanding of Lifting Agreements and Terminal Procedures, including Availabilities, Payment Quantities, etc.

Candidate Profile

  • You hold a Master’s degree (Engineering, Business School, or equivalent) with a Finance or Business background and have initial experience multitasking in a very fast-paced environment.
  • You have knowledge, interest, and curiosity in the energy/trading business and are willing to learn.
  • You enjoy facing challenges and have a strong sense of commitment and flexibility.
  • You have a good commercial instinct, a solution-oriented attitude, and demonstrate a genuine team spirit.
  • Rigorous in your approach, you meticulously plan and organize your work, enabling you to thrive in a complex and fast-paced environment and work under time pressure.
  • You proactively look for areas of development and do not hesitate to initiate new ideas or ways of doing things.
  • You have good analytical skills and are IT savvy.
  • You are fluent in English and French, and any other language is considered a plus.
