Context & Environment

Political: Changing governments in South Africa and NE resulting in change in political focus and change in tax laws.

 • Legal: Rapid change in legal and tax environment.

 • Skills: Tax skills shortage.

• Organizational: Management of NE taxes remotely, lack of immediate technical update in NE countries. Introduction of new business lines in New Energies industry.

 • Technical: Very large volume and value of transactions in the organisation and ever changing tax legislative environment.

Activities

In this role, you will be carring out the following activities : 
 

Tax Management: 

  • manage the tax affairs of the TotalEnergies South Africa Group of companies, the consolidation, analysis and the reporting thereof.
  • timeously submit tax returns and all payments to tax authorities
  • report Quarterly Tax results to Paris
  • effectively manage the team
  • manage internal, external and tax authorities audits
  • Responsible for tax accounting reporting 


Information and Liaison: 

  • provide Management with recommendations on the Tax implications of possible future actions.
  • optimize tax benefits and minimize tax obligations of the Group within the parameter of all relevant tax legislation. 
  • keep abreast of frequent changes in Legislation. 
  • liaise with Tax advisors in other oil companies, tax matters which affect the petroleum industry and which need an industry wide approach with the Commissioner for Inland Revenue, Department of Energy or the Minister of Finance. 
  • act as Public Officer to all companies within the Company


HSEQ:

  • Optimize tax benefits and minimize tax obligations of the group within the parameter of all-relevant tax legislation.
  • Lobby and interact frequently with business and purchasing in order to be associated to all business initiatives from the beginning 


People Management:

  • Manage, develop, train and assess the performance of the staff 


General:

  • ensure critical skills and positions are identified
  • ensure succession plan is in place for direct reports, and update job descriptions at least every 2 years
  • ensure the annual employee review process includes a review of employee career plan and development plan
  • ensure direct reports understand and comply with Procurement policy and procedures, and that non-compliance to procurement
