Are you a finance professional with strong cost control expertise in upstream oil & gas operations?

 

TotalEnergies EP Malaysia is seeking a Senior Cost Controller (Exploration & Appraisal) to support cost governance across exploration and appraisal activities. This role is critical in ensuring financial discipline, accurate forecasting, and cost optimization in a complex and highly regulated upstream environment.

Activities

Your Impact

As a Senior Cost Controller, you will:

  • Lead budgeting and forecasting cycles for exploration and appraisal activities, ensuring alignment with operational plans and cost recovery frameworks.
  • Monitor and control costs including commitments, accruals, and actual expenditures, ensuring accuracy and compliance with approved budgets.
  • Develop and challenge Estimated Final Costs (EFC) in collaboration with drilling engineers and project teams.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide clear, actionable insights to management on budget performance.
  • Produce timely and reliable cost reports, dashboards, and financial analyses to support decision-making.
  • Support Contract Committee processes through budget impact analysis and financial validation.
  • Manage intercompany transactions and ensure accurate cost allocations and accrual tracking.
  • Ensure audit readiness and support internal, joint venture, and external audits.
  • Build strong working relationships with technical and finance stakeholders to promote a culture of cost discipline and continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile

What We Are Looking For

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Petroleum Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
  • 7–10 years of experience in finance or cost control roles within the oil & gas industry.
  • Strong understanding of PSCs, JOAs, and PETRONAS regulatory guidelines.
  • Proficiency in SAP (FI/CO) and advanced Excel skills; familiarity with Power BI is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex datasets.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and challenge constructively.
