Context & Environment

TotalEnergies Gas & Power Trading (TGP) and its affiliates are expanding rapidly in support of the company’s transition toward power. This growth is driven by the acquisition of a diverse portfolio of energy assets—from renewable sources such as wind and solar to batteries and CCGTs. For the trading organization, this translates into rising trading volumes, a broader geographical footprint, and an urgent need for process automation, all of which place increasing demands on IT systems and capabilities.

The Business Analyst will be embedded within the Trading IT team, focusing on new trading‑related initiatives. The role works closely with business users and project teams to ensure the timely delivery of IT solutions that are reliable, secure, and scalable for the Gas & Power trading business.

Activities

In this role, you will collaborate with Project Managers throughout the implementation phase, performing core Business Analyst functions such as requirements gathering, stakeholder analysis, and process mapping. You will track project progress, represent business needs within development teams, validate requirements, conduct user acceptance testing, and ensure that delivered solutions meet functional, performance, and quality expectations. You will also facilitate smooth transitions from project implementation to run mode and manage multiple initiatives in a non‑hierarchical environment, taking on responsibilities similar to a product owner.

The Business Analyst ensures that business requirements are thoroughly defined, validated, and accurately implemented across project teams. Serving as a key liaison between Business, IT, and Vendors, the role supports testing, documentation, and the transition of solutions into run mode. By bridging functional needs with technical delivery, the Business Analyst helps deliver reliable, scalable solutions that support the evolving requirements of the Gas & Power Trading organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Project Managers to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables.
  • Gather and document user requirements during the scoping phase and maintain an updated change log throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Negotiate priorities while balancing business needs and IT constraints.
  • Ensure business requirements are consistent and aligned with company standards and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize or enhance legacy processes and support change‑management initiatives.
  • Produce comprehensive documentation, including end‑to‑end business process flows, functional workflows, and operational guides for handover to support teams.
  • Define and document support frameworks, including SLAs, ticket‑handling procedures, and escalation paths.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop and finalize test plans.
  • Support user testing, regression‑test planning, and parallel‑run preparation.
  • Act as a liaison between Business, Vendor, and IT teams to ensure clear communication and alignment throughout implementation.
  • Validate requirements and ensure proper implementation of business needs in terms of functionality, performance, and quality.
  • Facilitate the transition of projects from implementation to run mode, ensuring a smooth handover to support teams.

Candidate Profile

  • 5+ years of experience in trading or other complex, fast‑paced environments, working as a Business Analyst on vendor or proprietary software projects or support.
  • Experience collaborating with developers and working within agile software‑development methodologies preferred.
  • Strong proactiveness and ownership, with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams in a fast‑paced environment and drive results.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of front‑to‑back application flows, production‑support processes, and the lifecycle of business‑critical systems.
  • Experience with power, gas, and NGL commodities and trading‑related vendor applications highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the trading lifecycle and support methodologies within a global team environment.
  • Graduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Management Information Systems.
  • Fluent in English; French proficiency is an advantage.

As such it operates in fast-evolving market dynamics influenced by internal and external factors that require constant adaptation and evolution. Uncertainties specific to the trading environment (volatility of prices, supply & demand mismatches) are coupled with those coming from the broader energy sector (climate change policies, changes in the energy mix, developments of new energy sources, etc). In such context TGP helps to ensure growth and profitability to a key segment of the business in order to reach the objective of Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
