TotalEnergies is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Power System Modeling & Controls Engineer to join our team. 

 

As a Power System Modeling & Controls Engineer, you will be a part of the TotalEnergies Research & Technology organization that works with our rapidly growing US and Global Business teams to help address their current technical needs and test new technologies for the future. In this role, you will help develop advanced modeling and control techniques for designing, analyzing, and optimizing the electrical systems for our renewables and EV charging assets to ensure reliable and efficient operation. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a subject matter expert in power systems and power electronics modeling and controls for internal partners and stakeholders.
  • Design and develop power system models and perform high-fidelity dynamic simulations to analyze system performance, stability and reliability.
  • Conduct power flow studies, short circuit analysis, and transient stability analysis for interconnected renewables, BESS, EV charging infrastructure and microgrids, ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Develop and implement protection and advanced control schemes for AC and DC electrical infrastructure.
  • Participate in R&D collaboration projects with internal and external academic partners, actively contribute to the technical / scientific contents, develop and secure intellectual property rights whenever it is possible.
  • Coordinate plans with internal R&D teams and business units with similar goals, manage regular technical progress and associated data/codes/reports among partners, test and maintain the codebase, and provide support for internal technology transfer.
  • Convert complex research findings into innovation briefing and written reports, present key results to project stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper follow-up with key stakeholders for project costs, milestones, and relevance of results.


This position can be based remotely, in Houston, TX or additional locations. If you are placed on assignment with TotalEnergies, your compensation is determined on factors such as skills, experience, geographic location, and other market conditions.

Profil der Bewerberin/des Bewerbers

Education/Experience:

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Energy & Power Systems, Power Electronics, Computer Science/Engineering, or related field of study.
  • 3+ years of experience in a field related to power system and power electronics (modeling, analysis, control, optimization, etc.)
  • Experience in software programming and strong coding skills in Python, C, C++
  • Experience with transmission and distribution system modeling, renewable energy integration and smart grid technologies (IRBs, GFMs, microgrids, etc.)

Skills:

  • Requires skill in power system modeling (e.g. PSS/E, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink), EMT and HIL simulations (e.g. ETAP, PowerFactory, OPAL-RT), and knowledge of electrical grid infrastructure and grid codes in major ISOs/TSOs in US (i.e. ERCOT, CAISO, PJM)
  • Strong understanding of power system protection, control, and stability, with demonstrated research creativity (publication, patents, etc.)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, NERC, FERC), Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus .
  • Fluent in English, knowledge of French is a plus.
