TotalEnergies Gas and Power Asia (TEGPA) is looking for a new Market Research Strategist - APAC Power Markets ! 

 This role is part of our Quantitative and Trading Analysis (Q&TA) team, which is dedicated to provide a better understanding of the markets traded by TotalEnergies Gas and Power in terms of prices and fundamentals, finding ways to model and forecast their dynamics and dealing with complex issues requiring a quantitative approach.

 As part of your duties, you will have to:
 * Develop and maintain models to analyse APAC power markets prices and fundamental data (generation, demand, weather impact...) and stay up to date on market structure in terms of companies, infrastructure and regulations. 
 * Develop and maintain predictive forecasting models using quantitative and qualitative methods. Monitor the driving forces on the markets, apply economics concepts to forecasts and price determination mechanisms and be the main point of contact for all questions and topics APAC power market-related on the trade floor.
 * In collaboration with IT and data scientists within the team, develop and maintain analytical tools and processes to improve and automate data gathering and analysis. Monitor availability of new data sources and tools to expand the current reach of APAC power analytics. 
 * Maintain an understanding of the trading desks business models and stay up to date regarding their trading positions in order to develop a market view and produce trading recommendations and price forecasts
 * Lead discussions on the forward view of the APAC power market with trading desks and/or senior management.
 * Collaborate with the regional gas and LNG analysts to build cross-commodity analytics and forecasts and with quantitative analysts and data scientists within the team to leverage advanced analytical techniques
 * Carry ad hoc analysis and projects in support of traders and senior management
 * Provide written reports to global TGP trading desks and senior management, as well as to Paris headquarters, affiliates and market partners; create and update presentations on market-related topics
 * Ensure analytical support to Paris headquarters (Strategy, REN, Business Development, etc) on market-related issues.
 * Help in the training of junior market analysts, interns and graduates


Dimensions

* The Q&TA team is formed of market fundamentals experts, data scientists, quantitative researchers and meteorologists. In a context of great autonomy, the Q&TA team contributes interpretation, advisory and support to all TGP trading desks and to senior management - including COMEX members - and helps them define trading strategies and take investment decisions. 

* The job holder influences the global TGP trading performance and works with trading desks and other stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data in order to help traders take positions on the market and more broadly the Company to catch business opportunities. This requires in-depth analysis of complex and unique problems as well as creative and strategic thinking. 

* The holder of the position covers primarily the Australian and Japanese power markets traded by TGPA but will get exposure to and support projects related to all the commodities traded by TGP.

Profil der Bewerberin/des Bewerbers

  • Degree in Economics, Business, Mathematics or Engineering;
  • Excellent modelling and analytical skills with strong attention to detail demonstrated by at least 3-4 years of experience in an analytical or quantitative function; 
  • Knowledge of the traded APAC power markets (Australia and Japan in particular), power systems dispatch and flows dynamics. Understanding of operations is a plus;
  • Working experience within a trading environment is required;
  • Coding skills (Python), as well as familiarity with visualization frameworks;
  • High level proficiency of Japanese language preferred;
  • The position requires autonomy, objectivity, innovation, to be resourceful and well organized;
  • The ideal candidate should be able to explain complex issues and present them in a clear and concise manner.
  • This position may require occasional travels to Geneva and/or Paris.
