Context & Environment

TotalEnergies has created an entity, OneTech, which brings together all the technical and R&D departments of our various branches (Exploration & Production, Refining & Chemicals, Marketing & Services, and Gas, Renewables & Power). With 3,400 people, OneTech is divided into three poles: an industrial pole supporting the company's expansion in the fields of gas, renewable energies, electricity, and carbon emission reduction; a Research & Development pole that consolidates all of TotalEnergies' research activities to anticipate the company's transformation, prioritizing the low-carbon mix; and a support hub that provides expertise and technical support to TotalEnergies' subsidiaries and business units worldwide.

By integrating all the company's technical and R&D expertise into a single entity, OneTech becomes one of the pillars of TotalEnergies' transformation into a multi-energy Company.

Atividades

Within its R&D pole, OneTech seeks a dedicated postdoctoral researcher to join the Physico-Chemistry R&D Teams in our Lacq (64) R&D Center. You will lead a project to optimize data acquisition and processing from experiments that couple microfluidics and Raman micro-spectroscopy. The goal is to cut analysis time by 10 to 100 times compared to current methods.

To minimize analysis time, we will implement a workflow for acquiring and processing complex Raman spectroscopic data using the open-source tool suite Orange/Quasar. This tool allows visual and interactive data processing and analysis workflows using inverse models and Machine Learning. The case study for this work is a R&D project on CO2 mineralization in basaltic rocks

Coupling microfluidics and Raman micro-spectroscopy allows tracking the reactivity of various minerals in a rock sample when exposed to a fluid. The high spatial resolution (~2 µm²) enables detailed mapping of the sample surface, generating thousands (~25,000 to 30,000) of Raman spectra per experiment to track dissolution and precipitation kinetics. These data will feed into numerical simulations to estimate storage capacity for different projects. It is crucial to acquire and process this large amount of spectroscopic data automatically.

Your primary research tasks include:

  • Develop experimental protocols to optimize Raman micro-spectroscopy data acquisition for various rock characterizations (Phase 1) and generate the experimental data required to feed the workflows.
  • Implement digital tools to automate the acquisition and processing of Raman spectra during microfluidic experiments on rock dissolution/precipitation (Phase 2).
  • Transfer methods and train laboratory technicians at PERL (Phase 3).

This Postdoctoral project is carried out in partnership with the Geology Laboratory of the ENS Lyon. The position will be mainly based at ENS Lyon (69) with missions of varying length at TotalEnergies Lacq Research Center (PERL) in Lacq (64), depending on the project phases. We offer you a 18-months fixed-term Postdoctoral Contract under French Private Law, renewable twice for a maximum duration of 4 years.

Perfil do Candidato

  • You hold a PhD in analytical sciences or geology with strong knowledge of Raman micro-spectroscopy, preferably with experience in geology or mineralogy.
  • You have an appetite for data. Knowledge of data processing tools like Quasar or Python to automate data processing workflows is a real advantage.
  • You are proficient in English and French.
  • You are dynamic with a taste for excellence.
  • You are results-oriented and flexible to interact and evolve in both academic and industrial contexts.
  • You are serious and pedagogical to share the acquired know-how
