Context & Environment

Tilenga and Kingfisher (OBO) oilfields developments are the Upstream component of the Lake Albert project, Uganda’s first oil development. There is no equivalent project of such an industrial drilling magnitude in a remote and sensitive area within the Company today. A Green Field Project, the Tilenga field, is to be found in a remote location in UGANDA near lake Albert with particularly sensitive environmental conditions. A challenging project: heavy and waxy oils produced from 29 drilling pads, 420 wells (some of them located in a national park) and treated in a Production Centre of 200,000bopd oil capacity and 650,000 bld of water treatment capacity. Reservoir pressure maintenance is ensured either by water injection or by polymer water injection depending on the reservoir characteristics. The project also includes an extended interconnecting network with temperature preservation. Multicultural environment: Ugandan rules and regulations, administrative requirements, and technical authorizations as well as international codes for onshore plant will apply. Relationships with authorities, partners and stakeholders are key factors for the success of the project.

Activities

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and carry out the 2G&R synthesis of the wellpad being drilled in order to optimize the design of the subsequent wells and refine the overall subsurface understanding of the field. The outcome of this synthesis is fundamental for reducing the remaining subsurface uncertainties and eventually optimizing the management of Tilenga’s resources.
  • Support the G&G team in the well preparation process and follow-up the 24/7 drilling operations in real-time to influence the decision-making process during critical milestones (landing and geosteering).
  • Share this work as frequently as required with our internal (Company, OneTech, DIG) and external (Joint-Venture Partners, Local Authorities) stakeholders as the drilling phase progresses.
  • Be responsible for the technical development of junior Geoscientists recruited fresh from the university through coaching and knowledge sharing to help them raise their awareness about their role in the team and progressively gain autonomy.
  • Contribute to the validation, interpretation and management of the G&G data, capitalizing on the strength of the OSDU data platform implemented for the first time in an operating affiliate.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BSc Degree.
  • More than 14 years of experience as Geoscientist with positions in operating affiliates and in Headquarters.
  • Experience with subsurface data integration And  have a track record in 2G&R synthesis.
  • Strong experience in reservoir geophysics (including seismic interpretation using the Sismage platform)
  • Familiar with the well operations workflows (WellSOR preparation and execution follow-up).
  • Solid coaching and mentoring capabilities
  • Expected behavioral skills include organization, initiatives, open-mindedness, adaptability, ability to communicate, confidentiality awareness, results orientation, effective interpersonal skills, strong ability to work in a cross functional environment.
