Job description:

* Lab has a total annual budget of six million dollars and a capital budget of $600,000
* Lab receives >100,000 samples and performs >1,000,000 tests per year.
* Lab certifies 2,000 tanks of petroleum products per year.

The purpose of the TotalEnergies Port Arthur Platform's Laboratory is to verify that petroleum streams and products meet all specifications. The Senior Chemist contributes time and effort to maximize all QA/QC systems. The prime duty of the senior chemist is to assure that all data is accurate and precise and reaches customers in a timely manner. He/she does this by training testers to perform all procedures correctly and maintaining analytical instrumentation. The senior chemist puts into place all QA/QC techniques and procedures required to verify that data is within acceptable tolerances, e.g. - standards, spikes, duplicates, etc. For certain values, statistical techniques are used, and the senior chemist will perform these duties. The senior chemist is frequently called upon to coordinate the interaction between internal and external customers. Additionally, the senior chemist may be asked to perform special projects, which fall beyond the routine requirements of the testers. The senior chemist is expected to educate themselves on the latest innovations, procedures, methods, techniques and developments, which affect the industry. On a daily basis the senior chemist writes memos, documents, procedures, etc. Miscellaneous duties may include shipping, conducting safety meetings, ordering supplies, and accommodating vendors.

 Activities
 
 * Ensure that hourly workers are properly trained including training scheduling and record keeping, in support of Lab Supervisor.
 * Maintain and troubleshoot analytical equipment.
 * Verify that analytical results are accurate.
 * Participate in special projects as identified by lab supervisor, operations, engineering, etc. for the optimization of the refinery.
 * Maintain hardware and software systems on Lab computers and analyzer interfaces, including maintaining Labware and LIMS interfacing programs.
 * Update KRONOS time keeping records and maintain scheduling of Lab hourly workers in absence of Lab supervisor. 
 * Organize and schedule routine Lab sampling, Test Runs, and special testing with coordination of process support group. 
 * Help provide for a safe workplace.
 * Impart information to internal and external customers in a timely fashion.
 * Work closely with La Porte Technical Center to provide technical support to operations and marketing.
 
 Monitor quality performance of lab and safety performance of work area for self and group members.

Candidate Profile

The Basic Function of a Senior Chemist is to provide technical support for the TotalEnergies Port Arthur Platform's Laboratory QA/QC systems, which help assure the delivery of "on-time", "on-spec" petroleum products.

* Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related science, or equivalent experience
* 5+ years of experience in a similar field.
* Laboratory instrumentation, computers experience
* Interpersonal and communication skills, detail oriented 
* Occasionally, the senior chemist is called upon to perform some duties which can be dangerous.
* The senior chemist is expected to participate in afterhours/weekend callout duty.
* Occasional travel to technical meetings, seminars, conferences, etc. may be required.
