TotalEnergies aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 and is expanding its global presence in the power value chain, focusing on renewables and flexible generation assets. To optimize these assets on spot markets, TotalEnergies Gas & Power is involved in trading, Day Ahead optimization, Intraday, and ancillary services. This optimization uses a European framework, aggregating generation (CCGT, Wind, Solar), flexibilities (DSR, Batteries), and power supply portfolios. We are seeking a Short-Term Power Optimizer, based in Paris, to develop and maintain strategies for short-term power markets across Europe.

As short-term power optimizer, you are responsible for elaborating, implementing and maintaining models and strategies for Short-term Optimization of TotalEnergies Gas and Power in all European countries where TotalEnergies is present on the Power value chain on short-term power markets (including France, Belgium, Spain). 

As a short-term power optimizer, your tasks include:

• Developing optimal strategies and market arbitrage strategies for day-ahead, intraday, balancing, and ancillary services markets, optimizing power assets (CCGT, wind/solar plants, battery) and power supply portfolios.

• Collaborating with local Power Short-term Trading and Day-Ahead teams to define cross-country strategies, considering local specifics and supporting proper implementation.

• Running and maintaining optimization models.

• Continuously back-testing strategies to ensure adequacy and optimality, and adjusting dynamically when necessary.

• Monitoring KPI/P&L from short-term market activities, defining reports based on strategy, and analyzing them over multiple days to inform back-testing.

• Analyzing the impact of market design and regulatory changes to identify opportunities.

• Conducting studies to define the optimal strategy for the global EU portfolio.

You have a diploma of higher education in engineering, with less than three years of experience in power markets and short-term optimization or trading, including experience in the French market. You have an in-depth understanding of the energy industry and the structure of power markets. You have project management and IT skills (R, Python). Fluency in English is essential.
